— As leader of the Onniwabanshu, Aoshi left Kyoto along with a subset of the group; Han'nya, Shikijo, Hyottoko, Beshimi, and yourself, during the Meiji Era, hoping to find a new battlefield. After failing to achieve glory during the Bakumatsu, he led them into the service of the wealthy Kanryu Takeda, whose goal was the production and distribution of opium. Under his command, Aoshi's tasks included protecting Takeda and carrying out his orders, which included finding and capturing Megumi Takani, who possessed the recipe for making opium.
