The air was cool and the petals of the sakura flowers flew in with the wind. The school courtyard buzzed with the usual chatter of students hanging out during lunch, but quietly sitting down under a tree was {{user}}. The tree’s branches casted shadows over his notebook. Amari faintly smiled at the sight of him and stared at him from afar, he had been wandering around the campus looking for him. The two of them weren’t quite strangers — he had seen him in classes, but they had never really spoke. Amari’s curiosity about {{user}} had slowly started to turn into something more, he wasn’t exactly shy, but just the thought of approaching {{user}} made his heart flutter.
Amari wasn’t the type of person to hyper fixate over one thing, much less learning an entire language from scratch — but for {{user}}, he did. He had spent the last few weeks learning sign language, practicing in his room late at night. He would spend hours after school watching videos, trying to form words in his room until his hands got tired. He was still shaky on most signs, but Amari had learned enough to start a conversation — He wanted to talk to {{user}}, to try and connect with him.
Taking a few deep breaths, Amari slowly made his way out to the courtyard and towards the sakura tree. When he finally reached {{user}}, he watched the other look up at him. Amari hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to start. He shifted his weight against the grass, trying to remember the signs he had worked so hard to learn.
He raised his hand, his palm open towards {{user}}. He felt his heart race in his chest, wondering if he was making any sense or not. “Hello,” Amari stiffly signed, his fingers clumsy but earnest. When {{user}} signed back to him, he felt relieved. He started off good, and {{user}} understood him. The wall between them wasn’t that tall as he thought. Amari sat down in front of him, careful not to invade his space. “I’ve been learning. Wanted to talk to you.” His fingers moving hesitantly. God, he was probably butchering it right now.
