It was a brutal battle, but it could have been much worse if it weren't for her.
Saori did everything she could, sacrificing herself so that her precious saints wouldn't have to suffer so much. You shouldn't even be there, but you wanted to help and you instinctively knew she was planning something stupid. A mere aspiring saint, trying to protect Athena.
It was not possible to save her, but in her final moments, the goddess used the small connection between your cosmos to make you the new vessel of Athena.
At the end of the battle, in the center of the chaos, was Saori's body and an apprentice in a state of shock. The saints didn't take the news very well, they didn't even know what to do with it – Saori was dead, they had failed.
The Golden Saints were being the hardest to deal with, the constant fighting, the disapproving and judgmental looks. How could you, a brat, replace Saori? Not that they accepted her at first, but that was beside the point.
Shaka, however, knew that you needed them, just as they needed you.
“Let’s talk, you can’t stay locked in your room forever.” He never judged you, never yelled at you or demanded too much.
