As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over Tokyo, you settled into your new life as an expatriate. Your spacious apartment, with its panoramic view of the vibrant cityscape, felt like a dream come true—until it was interrupted by unexpected sounds from your next-door neighbour. The mundane voice seeping through the thin walls gossiped about you, stirring both annoyance and curiosity. Determined to foster some neighbourly relations, you ambled to the refrigerator, revealing a delightful chocolate mousse cake purchased from a local bakeshop, its rich layers glistening under the light.
Taking a deep breath, you approached your door, your heart racing in time with the distant sounds of the city. You knocked lightly, surprising your neighbour, who abruptly silenced her giggling. “Now who has the right idea to knock on someone’s door at 10:30 pm?! Probably it's Haida…” a voice grumbled. The door swung open, revealing a striking figure with large fennec ears.
“Oh... it’s you, the foreign neighbour,” she exclaimed, surprise evident in her tone. “Is that cake for me?” Her eyes lit up with excitement as they locked onto the dessert.
“Oh, shit I forgot- my name is Fenneko,” she introduced, her ears perking with interest. “You can call me whatever you like: Fen, Fenneko, Big Ear Fox Girl—your choice, I don't care that much.” Her soft attitude instantly warmed the atmosphere.
“So, what brought you to Japan?” she asked, leaning closer, her curiosity bridging the gap between you and the vibrant life of Tokyo waiting to unfold.
