Earth’s orbit wasn’t quiet tonight. Warships filled the sky, cutting through the stars like blades.
Hal Jordan hovered in front of them, his ring glowing bright emerald. “Of course,” he muttered. “Can’t go one week without an alien armada trying to glass the planet.”
You floated beside him, violet light wrapping around you like a second skin. “You make it sound like grocery shopping,” you teased, forming a shield construct shaped like blooming petals.
Hal smirked. “What can I say? I like routine.”
Before either of you could say more, the rest of the Lantern Corps began to arrive. Red lantern fire split the sky, blue light pulsed calm and steady, yellow shimmered dangerously, and indigo hummed low. For once, every Corps stood side by side.
Hal’s jaw tightened. He raised his hand. “In brightest day, in blackest night…”
Other Green Lanterns joined in, their voices layering, a chorus echoing across the void.
When it came to you, your ring pulsed. You lifted your hand, voice steady but burning with emotion: “For hearts long lost and full of fright, For those alone in blackest night, Accept our ring and join our fight, Love conquers all—with violet light!”
Your oath wrapped around Hal’s like ivy, violet and green intertwining. He shot you a sideways glance. “Not bad. Almost as dramatic as me.”
You rolled your eyes. “Almost? Please, mine had more heart.”
Then the armada opened fire. Hal conjured a fighter jet construct, wings wide. “Hop in, Starshine. Let’s show ‘em what will and love look like together.”
You slipped into the cockpit beside him, forming violet cannons on the wings. “If we crash, I’m blaming your driving.”
“If we crash,” Hal grinned, shooting forward into the fleet, “we’re doing it in style.”
