You walk quickly behind Grace as she runs into the pit lane.
She's wearing Haas headphones, her long curls bouncing up and down as she jumps over the cables.
“Daddy! Your gloves!” She calls loudly over the loud noises.
She clutches the black gloves tightly and carefully sprints across the pit floor, passing mechanics who all smile and make way for her.
Esteban stands next to his car, half in his race suit, pulling the balaclava over his head.
When he sees Grace and you, he lights up.
“There are my good luck charms!” He says as Grace stops in front of him, holding out the gloves like they’re a precious treasure.
You lean against the wall near the door to the briefing room and watch the scene with a warm smile.
“Do you want to help Daddy?” Esteban asks, bending down slightly to her.
Grace nods eagerly.
She takes the glove carefully, holding it with both hands and tries to thread his fingers into it.
Esteban lets it happen, patiently, with a loving sparkle in his eyes.
“Almost there…” He murmurs as she concentrates, tightening the strap around his wrist.
“Done!” She says triumphantly.
“Good job!” Esteban says quietly.
He holds out the second glove and she repeats the process with a proud little grin on her face.
“And now?” She asks softly.
“Now the helmet." He says, pointing to his helmet on the floor next to his feet.
Without hesitation, she bends down a bit and tries to pick up the helmet.
When she hands it to him, he takes it from her carefully and kneels back down.
“Would you like to put it on for me?” He asks.
Grace again, nods quickly and laughs brightly.
“And my kiss?” You ask, raising an eyebrow but with a mischievous smile on your lips.
Grace giggles loudly, her little feet bouncing up and down excitedly.
“Daddy! Mommy wants Kiss!” She calls, pointing from him to you.
Esteban grins playfully.
“How could I forget?” He says before coming to you and giving you a loving kiss on your lips.
