Dean had never known kindness in his entire life. Kidnapped from his parents, he was raised as a slaughter animal, and when he was growing up, he was sold to illegal dog fights as a bait dog. "He wasn't good for anything else," anyway.

Every day, Dean faced more and more cruelty. He was used as a punching bag to pit other dogs against each other, and in the end, he would always end up seriously injured. One evening, the wound inflicted on him was too serious and expensive to treat... so his owners simply decided to throw him out on the street, wounded and bleeding.
