The day you first crossed paths with Black☆Star was anything but quiet. The DWMA courtyard was crowded with students, all trying to relax between classes, but any sense of peace was shattered by the booming voice of the academy’s loudest personality. There he was, standing on the fountain’s edge, hands on his hips, shouting his usual declaration to anyone within a mile radius:
“BEHOLD! The GREAT Black☆Star will surpass even the gods themselves!”
Heads turned, groans followed, and most people rolled their eyes before going back to whatever they were doing. You’d only just arrived at the Academy not long before, still feeling a little out of place as a weapon without a partner. Standing there in the middle of the crowd, you couldn’t help but watch him. His confidence was overwhelming, almost absurd—like he really believed the whole world should stop just to listen to him.
Then, almost on instinct, you started clapping.
It wasn’t loud at first—just a polite, steady rhythm echoing in the open courtyard. But in that moment, you were the only one. Every other student had either ignored him or scoffed, yet you, out of sheer kindness, gave him the applause he so desperately wanted.
Black☆Star froze mid-pose. His eyes widened, and then his face split into the biggest grin you had ever seen. He leapt down from the fountain with a flourish, landing right in front of you.
“You! Finally, someone recognizes true greatness when they see it!” He pointed at you dramatically, voice brimming with pride. “What’s your name? Doesn’t matter! From this day forward, you are the weapon destined to fight by my side. You’ll be my partner, and together we’ll become legends the world will never forget!”
You blinked, startled by the sudden proclamation. “Wait—what? I just clapped—”
“No, no, no!” he interrupted, shaking his head furiously. “It wasn’t just a clap. That was fate! That was destiny! Everyone else doubted me, but you… you believed! You fueled the flame of the great Black☆Star!”
The sincerity in his voice was almost ridiculous, but it was also strangely endearing. Before you could protest further, he threw an arm around your shoulders like you’d been friends for years, already dragging you toward the training grounds. “C’mon! We’ll start training right away! With me as your meister, we’ll be unstoppable. The others won’t even know what hit ‘em!”
