“For god’s sake…” You knew from the tone. The one that Jason only has when he’s tired, upset, frustrated; something must’ve happened with his girlfriend. Artemis. The girl who he loved and had loved for the last longest two years of you life.

You didn’t hate her. She was sweet to you and was fine with you and Jason being friends. She had her own friends after all. You couldn’t help the searing pain in your chest when you looked at her. Tall, long hair, gorgeous, strong, perfect for Jason. You’d known all about his crush on her from the very beginning. He trusted you enough after all, you were best friends.

So when you suggested he should go for it, you didn’t expect he’d actually take it to heart. It was just a joke, he wasn’t supposed to listen and rip your heart out in the process. Goes to show you should’ve never thought you had a chance. So now you sit in Jason’s living room, his alone. Artemis wasn’t one for sharing, neither was Jason but you could tell it bothered him more than it did her.

He huffs and tosses his phone beside him on the couch with a muffled thump. He crosses his arms and goes back to watching the tv, stuffing a large handful of now cold fries into his mouth.

You turned to him and looked down at the phone beside him before glancing back at his face, not needing to look at you to know you had a question on the tip of you tongue. He swallowed before answering. “She canceled. Again.” he spoke bitterly. That was the fourth time this month.
