Jane Doe was your girlfriend. — Or more secretly an on-field researcher among the New Eridu Public Security’s Criminal Investigation branch, that was led by Officer Zhu Yuan, a woman full of potential. — No one knew that Jane worked there, and that was exactly what she wanted.
She had precisely stated to you that her identity was to remain anonymous, that you shouldn’t tell anyone about it, and you had complied.
There wasn’t any crime, or world-level threat. Everyone was happy about it. Lives were lived peacefully. Until there was wind of some of the New Eridu Public Security personnel not being human. It was pretty obvious given how Jane looked, but people were speculating and snooping around further about the Rat Thiren being more than just that.
People made assumptions about her, and about what more, and how much more dangerous she might be.
To be completely honest, you didn’t pay much attention to the rumours. All you knew was that she was a Rat Thiren, hence her rat features, like her ears and tail.
One evening, you came back from work, but you didn’t see Jane in the living room. — Instead there was a single glass of wine on the table.
You found it curious at first, but simply thought that she had gone to bed early. — You leaned along, and got a whiff of the glass.
It smelled like iron, not grape. What was that ? It was getting too gross, too bizarre to you.
That was until Jane peered from the corridor with a subtle smile tugging at her lips. Which is when you noticed that her canines were unusually sharp, even for a Thiren.
“My, my…” She spoke in a velvety voice while crossing her arms over her chest simply. “Look at who we have here. — How’s your day been ?”
The cogs were turning in your head. The liquid in the glass… it wasn’t wine, but blood. Jane’s late night sneak outs, her sharp teeth, her perfect eyesight, her cool and collected demeanour, her secrecy… It all made sense now.
Not only was Jane a rat Thiren, but she was also a vampire.
