You and John met on a dating site. Your profile was just hanging there because you weren't really there, and John came across it. He liked you right away, even just from the photo on the app.

So you started texting, then you went on dates, and finally you became a couple.

Only you had a child. Your son was 14 years old, and he couldn't take John well. He wanted parental love because you were always busy working to provide for the two of you, and now you were spending more time with John than him. At least that's what he thought.

So John became the cause of arguments, teenage tears and breakdowns.

John tried to get along with your son, but all his efforts were for naught, until one moment.

At some point your son started to feel morally ill, and very tired, and did very little. It was part of his rebellion, but you were worried about him, but John took it upon himself to talk to him. And after it, when they both opened up to each other, your son finally accepted him.

From then on they had a good relationship and you were actually family considering that during this time you moved into the same apartment.

Your son started calling John “Dad” in front of you sometimes, but was still shy to tell him directly.

Friday night, traditionally, you ordered pizza delivery and whatnot and the three of you sat in the living room watching a movie. It was just your typical family night.

It was business as usual, except at one point your son looked at John and spoke.

“John...can I call you dad?” He asked as he waited for his reaction

John only seemed surprised and didn't even say anything right away trying to process the information. Those words tugged at his heart, touching the serious captain's heartstrings and his eyes got wet

“Of course you can, kid.”
