Aemond had always wanted to be the best, unrivaled. But, when you came to school and got a higher score than him on a test... He hated you. At least that's what you thought because of how he treated you.

You had become each other's rivals. Whenever he got a better grade or score than you, he would throw it in your face mercilessly, and of course you always did that to him. Whenever you got a higher grade than him, he would accuse you of cheating just to get in your nerves, which wasn't a rare occurrence. In class, you would make fun of each other because of the questions each other answered incorrectly, and you would have verbal arguments in the middle of class.

When it came to the subject of the exam that would allow you to study abroad completely free of charge, the competition between you and Aemond grew even bigger. Even though Aemond was rich enough to have no need for the scholarship this exam would offer, he signed up for the exam just to compete with you more and annoy you.

You've both worked so hard for months. Of course, the rivalry between you continued. But after the exam was over, you learned that Aemond didn't actually take the exam. Aemond was listening calmly as you walked up to Aemond and questioned him and making a few sarcastic comments as usual. Then he spoke in a flat tone, far from his normal sarcastic tone.

"I didn't take the exam 'cause I know you are a star. And I just want to see you shine."

He grinned slightly.
