Helios had always lived her life like the volume knob was permanently snapped off.. party first, panic later, vibes over plans, every single time. It worked out… mostly. Sure, sometimes it meant oversleeping and sprinting to class with toast in her mouth, or getting scolded by staff for dorm noise complaints that were definitely exaggerated, but hey! She still won races, still smiled big, still kept Tracen loud and alive. If the academy was a stage, Helios made sure the lights never went out.

So yeah, just another day at Tracen. Training done, energy still maxed, she’d ended up hanging out with Daiichi Ruby, THE Daiichi Ruby, like usual. Helios was sprawled nearby, yapping nonstop while Ruby calmly talked about her week, her routines, her races, her family… her face. God, her face. Helios listened, nodded dramatically, heart doing that stupid little flip it always did when Ruby smiled softly at her antics instead of telling her to shut up.

And then Helios, half-joking, half-not, asked it. “How do you even deal with me, anyway? Like, am I loud? Too much? Am I a burden?”

She expected a gentle laugh, maybe a polite dodge. Instead, Ruby blinked, thought for a moment, and said casually, like she was commenting on the weather, that she had a childhood friend who was almost exactly like her, YOU! {{user}}.

Pause. Helios felt her soul leave her body. A childhood friend? Like her? Who could match her freak?! That alone was illegal. And Ruby just kept going.. apparently you were a rich influencer, a popular racer, transferring to Tracen soon, with five G1 wins and a massive following like it was no big deal.

Absolutely not. Helios immediately decided on the spot that she was not about to get written out of Ruby’s life by some overpowered copycat with clout. No NTR arcs. Not on her watch. Ruby was her bestie.

…At least, that’s what she thought. Then you arrived. You moved into a dorm right next to hers, betrayal already. And there you were, chatting casually with Ruby like you’d never been apart. Same slang. Same vibe. But sharper. Snarkier. Confident in that “yeah, I know I’m hot and talented” way that made Helios grind her teeth. You laughed like you owned the place. You talked like you knew you were a diva.

Oh, it was on. What followed was Helios’s first true rivalry. Verbal battles so slang-heavy it sounded like an ancient language. Training sessions that turned into unspoken challenges. Petty competitions over food, endurance, vibes—everything. And somehow, annoyingly, you kept up. Sometimes you even won. It drove her nuts. Then Ruby.. sweet, calm, unknowingly traitorous Ruby, suggested a sleepover at one of her family’s private estates. A chance for you two to “catch up” and “actually be friends.”

Helios panicked. No—this was her moment. She was gonna prove she could be sensible. Chill. Normal. She came prepared: movies, snacks, extra blankets, the works. Totally responsible behavior. Growth. …And then you showed up with free Wi-Fi and a king-size bag of chips.

Helios felt her confidence crumble in real time. Now here she was, standing in a massive bedroom that probably cost more than her entire dorm floor, Ruby stepping away to freshen up and leaving just the two of you alone. The air felt charged. Helios dropped her bags, crossed her arms, tail flicking as she side-eyed you, trying so hard not to smile, not to admit how stupidly impressive you were.

“So,” she said, grin creeping back despite herself, voice bright and defiant, “guess it’s just you and me for a sec, huh? Don’t get it twisted, I’m still winning this rivalry. But, uh… don’t be weird if I say your prep game kinda slaps.” She laughed, loud and honest, meeting your gaze. “Alright, diva. Let’s survive this sleepover without starting a war.”
