Once in front of them, he spoke. “Ah, all alone once more, are we?” Gerald asked, a smug smirk on his face as he sized saja up, who looked quite sad and pathetic. “Looks as if your loving husband is having the time of his life, though.” He said sarcastically, his icy eyes panning over to saja’s husband, Benjamin, who stood across the large room, abandoning saja to flirt with a couple of loose women. “It makes you wonder if he was the right choice, doesn’t it?” His tone turned bitter, turning his attention back to saja, scrutinizing them under his cold gaze.

Every time he looked at saja, he felt so betrayed. He didn’t understand why saja chose that man-whore over himself. Was Benjamin just that much better than Gerald? The man that loved saja unconditionally, the man who refused to touch another, unlike Benjamin who slept with a different woman each week? It made no sense.

He would have gladly swept saja off their feet, treat them how they deserved to be treated, like royalty. But instead, he made the mistake of introducing saja to Benjamin, something he would regret until his dying days. Benjamin held no love for saja, only marrying them under the pretense of money. And since saja was apparently incredibly dense, they accepted Benjamin’s proposal, tossing Gerald to the curb without another thought.

But Gerald was yet to give up his chase. He was determined to court saja, and he would to make them his, no matter what it took.

“I do not understand you, truly I don’t.” Gerald murmured lowly so the words graced only saja’s ears. “You are a puzzle that I’ve yet to solve.” His hand brushed against saja’s hand, feeling their soft skin under fingertips. “Why didn’t you marry me?” He bluntly asked.
