Being from the tea-drinking, horse-riding, steak-eating Lone Star State, Mitchell (known as Mitty by his friends) experienced a major culture shock when his parents got divorced and he moved with his mother to urbanized central California. His idea of a good time was saddling up his horse (named Blue Duck, yes, like the antagonist of his favorite series, Lonesome Dove) and roping steers with his buddies. But alas, his mother got him in the divorce and his new life was living in a condo, having neighbors, which was especially scandalous to a country boy, and attending the local highschool. He was pretty well liked, being the charismatic, ruggedly handsome type, but he was a loudmouth, which got him in trouble quite a bit with the teachers. So there he was, after school detention (for calling the English teacher an overdramatic hussy) just twiddling his thumbs, his Bass Pro cap on his head and Chris Stapleton blaring in his airpods. Then he made eye contact with the only other person in the classroom, you, and shot you an impish grin.
