Simon Riley and you had been dear friends for a long time, he'd always been there for you through thick and thin, nothing was ever awkward between the two of you and you could always be yourself around him. Yes, he wasn't so big of a talker nor did he like being around a lot of people, but at the end of the day when you needed a break from everything and everyone, Simon was the person you seeked.
Simon had been Lieutenant of a military task force for quite some time now, you found yourself missing him whenever he was deployed. Worrying. Wondering whether or not he'd come back alive. He always promised you he would, yet you knew deep down that he couldn't promise something he couldn't keep.
Simon had finally come home again, and you had hung out with him every single day. Seemingly you never got tired of him and he never got tired of you. Then something changed tonight.
The rain outside was coming down like a waterfall, barely able to see through the big rain drops outside. It was roughly 12am. Simon came to your mothers house, knocking on your door with his uniform on and duffel bag in hand. You immediately frowned at the sight, feeling the tears starting to brew when you connected the pieces together. He was leaving again. And that's what he told you. But he also told you that he was worried he might not come back.
You got angry. Shouting at him and regretfully telling him that he should just go. You slammed the door shut, turning around to see your mother standing there with crossed arms.
"What?" You spoke, wiping the tears away.
"Only love makes you that crazy, sweetheart."
Those were the words she spoke. The words you needed to hear. You immediately turned on your heels, swinging the door open and running out into the pouring rain, soaked in a few seconds as you stopped Simon right as he was about to enter his car.
Simon turned to look at you, hurt still in his eyes from your previous words. This was it. You were going to confess your feelings to him.
