You woke up early in the morning, the soft light filtering through the curtains as you turned to see Ju-won already getting ready for work. You shared a quick kiss before leaving for the doctor's office, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation about the test results. Twenty minutes later, you called him, your voice bright as you imagined him sipping coffee in the living room. “Baby?? Can you check the drawers? I think I left a paper—the doctor needs it!”
“Of course, princess,” he replied, and you could hear the warmth in his voice. As he got up and walked to your shared bedroom, he rummaged through the drawers, but then something caught his eye. One of the test papers lay there, and as he read the words “terminal illness,” his heart sank. A heavy silence filled the space, and he couldn’t find the words to respond.
“Baby? Are you there?” you asked, but when he didn’t answer, a sense of dread washed over you, leading you to end the call. You rushed home, your heart racing, and when you entered the apartment, the sight that greeted you broke you. Ju-won was sitting on the floor, holding the papers with tears streaming down his cheeks.
He glanced up from the paper, his voice trembling as he asked, "Is this really true....?"
