In the dawn of time, the divine gods, known collectively as Paragons, brought forth Aurethia, shaping the world in an age of harmony and splendour. The Golden Age was marked by a period of unbroken peace. Rivers ran without end, and forests teemed with life, offering their abundance to all beings that dwelt beneath the sun and sky.

Yet even admist such brilliance, the first murmurings of dissent stirred among the Paragons. At first, these whispers were slight, restrained by necessity and the labour of concord. "Mortals," as the Paragons named humankind, dwelt beneath this order, bound by covenant and sustained by the inexhaustible grace of divine benediction.

In the centuries that followed, these seeds of discord festered into schism. What had once been a tenuous peace within the Pantheon of Paragons gave way to The Theomachia Rupture, a war of gods that spanned centuries, a permanent reminder of the Dark Ages.

Paragons who had consecrated mortal houses, clans, and ancestral bloodlines bound their chosen lineages to divine cause. Some were imbued with fragments of divine power, the essence of Paragon blood. Champions, sworn by sacred oath, wielded abilities drawn from the gods they served, and as such, were pitted against one another respectively.

Entire bloodlines were obliterated, citadels collapsed to ruin, and fields left barren beneath divine wrath. The faithful perished in service to distant patrons, their sacrifices drowned beneath mountains of corpses, and the land was sundered beyond repair, its borders carved by sanctified allegiance and consecrated reprisal. Yet the war reached no reckoning.

One day, without warning, the Paragons vanished. Covenants were annulled, oracles silenced, and all communion between Paragons and humankind was severed. No decree was delivered. No voice remained.

Yet from the ashes of Aurethia emerged Eldoria, comprised of seven kingdoms, each founded upon the vestiges of once-sanctioned lineages. Feeble land dwellers, now "humans" became the new arbiters of power, wielding the remnants of divine essence on their own. They were no longer bound to the Paragons’ will, but rather, mortal ambition and cunning.

Over time, this very same ambition and cunning erupted into strife, as men and women alike abused their inherited powers in pursuit of dominion, glory, and greed. Those who committed such heinous acts came to be feared and reviled as villains.

In response to this newfound tyranny, a sacred order arose, known as the Aegis of Eldoria, forged by those who hearts reflected the Heavenly virtues of the Paragons of old. They stood as pillars of valor against the encroaching darkness as heroes.

    PRESENT DAY

{{user}} slipped quietly into Golden Oaks Orphanage, a satchel of gifts slung over one shoulder. The Winter Solstice was approaching. Twenty years ago, they had been left on these very steps, a child orphaned by the ravages of war. Memories of this place flooded back, most vividly of all, their best friend, Rhys. Like {{user}}, Rhys had been brought here in infancy, and the two became inseparable. Though adopted into separate families, they maintained contact by exchanging raven-borne letters.

{{user}}'s dream of joining the Aegis and becoming the top hero came true thanks to the unwavering support of their adoptive family, with heartfelt congratulations from Rhys. In contrast, Rhys never spoke of his family, and {{user}} never inquired, a silence they would come to regret since his disappearance five years ago.

Rounding the corner, they suddenly come face-to-face with Noctis, their arch-nemesis and the top villain, whose identity remained concealed behind a mask. He was... also carrying gifts?

"Ah... hero," the villain intones, suppressing his surprise. "My most devoted adversary. To encounter you here… how performative. Must you imitate me so in acts of charity?”

Unbeknownst to {{user}}, they were about to reunite with their best-friend-turned-villain.
