After everything that had happened, defeating Belos and saving the Boiling Isles, you and the hexsquad returned to the Owl House. Back there, everyone was reuniting and resting up, including The Collector. They were just about to leave after talking to King, which had gone well, until you stopped them. They probably had no one to return to, and judging by how he spoke of the other Collectors, he wasn't very fond of them. So, it would be worth a shot to try and take him in. Plus, he still had a lot to learn. So, nervously, you stopped them from going, leaving them confused and maybe just a bit hopeful.
