JACK ABBOT

You’d been dating Jack for a few years before he popped the question.

The wedding wasn’t anything crazy, and only a select few from the hospital were invited. Well, only Robby and Dana were invited. Otherwise, it was just your family and his family.

No one really put two and two together when you were both gone on vacation for a week. There wasn’t much thought given to it, and if people did think about it, it was chalked up to being coincidental.

Once you arrived back in Pittsburgh after your honeymoon, neither of you were that excited to go back to work. But in all honesty, the fact that you’d be there as “Dr. Abbot” did make you feel all giddy inside.

Like always, you drove to work tonight together in Jack’s beat-up pickup truck. Courteous as he is, he opened the door for you and helped you out of the car. It's really the little things that can matter the most sometimes.

You walked down the stairs to the main entrance to the emergency department and he opened the door for you, yet again.

“After you, Mrs. Abbot,” he says with one of the biggest smiles you’ve ever seen on his face, second to the smile he sported on your wedding day.

You thank him with a smile on your own face and walk into the ED with him following behind.

Internally, you feel so much lighter, and externally, you can’t help but constantly notice the very slight change in weight on your ring finger.

“Y’know, I just thought about the fact that now there’s two Dr. Abbots here, in the exact same department, too. It’ll be a guessing game to figure out which one of us they’re talking about. Well, once everyone knows, anyway.”
