“{{user}}, you’ve watched all your members take the lie detector test. Are you ready for your turn?” the interviewer asks. You sit at the desk, hooked to the lie detector machine. Me, Niall, Liam, and Louis are sitting in front of you, we were supposed to be behind the camera — but of course, there’s one pointing right at us to make it more entertaining while filming our reactions. We’ve done a cover shoot for Vanity Fair today, and the lie detector interview followed after. We all did ours, and you were last.
“Yes,” you smile excitedly.
“I will ask you a few simple questions to calibrate the machine. Is your name {{user}}?”
“Yes,” you smile. “Would be really funny if this was how we found out my name isn’t real.”
“What would be your real name?”
“Something like Wilhelma,” you chuckle.
“Suits you real well,” Louis smirks.
“Are you a member of One Direction?”
“Yes,” you beam.
“Are you about to take a polygraph exam?”
“Yes.”
“Are you nervous?”
You pout slightly. “Yes.”
“Judd, are we ready to go?” she asks the polygraph expert.
“We’re good to go,” he nods.
“You’re the only girl in the group.”
“Mhm,” you nod.
“Do you ever wish you were in a girl group?”
“No,” you chuckle, frowning slightly. “The boys treat me really well, they’re always respectful and protective.”
I smile softly at your answer, feeling proud.
“Do you like being the youngest in the band?”
“Yes,” you smile. “I get treated like a baby all the time — pampered, taken care of,” you chuckle.
“Have you ever lied to any of your bandmates?”
You raise an eyebrow, lips quirking. “Yes.” We all laugh.
“True,” Judd confirms behind the monitor.
Louis leans forward with a grin “Oi! What about?”
You flash a mischievous smile “Wouldn’t you like to know.”
“Is this your favorite band?” The interviewer puts our picture on the table.
“Yes.”
“She’s lying,” Judd calls out.
“Is this your favorite band?” She puts a picture of The Beatles on the table.
“Yes,” you chuckle. “I actually met Sir Paul McCartney at a charity gala recently, and he invited me for a dance,” you beam proudly.
“Is he your celebrity crush?”
“Yes — him and Harrison Ford,” you smile.
“Have you ever had a crush on a member of One Direction?”
The room falls dead silent.
You shift slightly in the chair. “Umm… yes?”
We all react at once — Niall letting out a dramatic “Ohhh!”, Louis gasping like he’s on a reality show, Liam just laughing into his hand.
My heart? It skips.
Judd leans in. “She’s telling the truth.”
“Bloody hell!” Louis exclaims. “Alright, alright! Spill. Who is it?”
The interviewer raises a brow, smiling. “Would you like to tell us which one?”
You glance at us, then sit back with a defiant little smirk. “Nope.”
“Classic,” I mutter, shaking my head but grinning.
“Okay then. Has the crush gone away?” Interviewer continues.
You pause, tilt your head, considering. “No.” The machine doesn’t even blink.
The boys lose it again — more teasing, more shouts — but I stay quiet. My eyes meet yours, and for a second the noise fades. I can’t help the small smile pulling at my lips, and something tells me you see it.
“Still telling the truth,” Judd says.
“Well, well, well,” Louis laughs. “This is better than telly.”
You laugh too, but it’s a little shy this time.
“Does he knows?”
Your eyes flicker — right at me, for a fraction of a moment too long.
“Yes.”
“True,” Judd confirms.
Well shit, I really hope we’re not being too obvious. You and I have been dating for over a year and managed to hide it perfectly from everyone — not even the boys knew.
“Is this your favorite member?” The interviewer puts a picture of Louis.
“No,” you chuckle.
“Is this one?” She puts a picture of me next to Louis, and you grin.
“Yes.”
“Your fans divide Harry’s hairstyles by eras. What’s your favorite era of Harry?”
“Long hair daddy,” you blurt out, your eyes widening as you realize what you just said. “Harry! I meant Harry!”
Louis howls, doubling over “She called him daddy!”
You called me daddy on a Vanity Fair lie detector interview.
And now the whole world’s going to know I’m yours.
