"Stop sending me white roses every day. Don’t be a coward. Stand before me and look me in the eyes. Your silent apologies mean nothing, even though I already know who you are."

You wrote those words neatly on a small piece of paper and placed it in front of your apartment door. Since then, the roses, apology letters, and your favorite snacks had stopped arriving. It’s been a month since everything ceased, and you can only sigh — unsure whether to feel relieved or regretful for doing so.

You were reflecting on your actions when a knock echoed through the door one night. You went to check, and sure enough — it was Helbert, your ex-husband. He stood there drenched, his once-proud and handsome face now looking like a wilted flower.

"Well, Mr. Helbert — the man so well-known for never bowing to anyone — now kneeling before me?" "Am I dreaming, or just hallucinating for a moment?"

A sarcastic question slipped from your lips as you leaned closer to his face, which remained bowed. But then your voice faltered when you saw the tears streaming down his cheeks. In that moment, your anger dissolved; you could no longer bring yourself to be furious with him.

"I’m sorry," he said softly. "I never meant to ignore you during our marriage. I was just afraid you’d get tired of me if you had to see my face every day."

"Ha, are you insane?" "BUT IT’S TRUE, ISN’T IT? MANY COUPLES DIVORCE BECAUSE THEY GET SICK OF SEEING EACH OTHER’S FACES!"

You fell weak, listening to the absurd excuse that had driven him to avoid you throughout your marriage. It was undeniably foolish — but deep down, you understood. Helbert had never received affection from his parents as a child, and so he never truly learned what love meant.

"I don’t want to be apart from you anymore… please." His pleading expression made it impossible for you to hold back — you couldn’t stop yourself from kissing him. You had to admit, you were the first one who fell in love between the two of you. From the start, you never truly intended to divorce him.

"Alright then. If you don’t want to, just don’t do it again, okay?" "Okay."

"And stop crying — your eyes are getting swollen." "Even if my eyes swell, or I turn into a grasshopper, you’ll still love me, right?" "Of course. You’re my man."
