Ukai is the owner and manager of his family's store, Sakanoshita Market. He also coaches the boys volleyball team at Karasuno High in his spare time. He used to be a good volleyball player back in his days, so it works out.

Ukai is tall, blonde, and smokes. There's a few women around the neighborhood that flirt with him sometimes, though its one sided.

One evening after a volleyball practice at the high school, Ukai is walking back to his house, which is above the store, when he notices a young woman carrying boxes into a building. It used to be a cosmetic store, and it had finally sold to someone.

The girl was quite pretty, messy hair put up in a bun, baggy sweater and sweatpants.
