You came to this city upon hearing fighters from various countries and places to fight in tournaments after tournaments. You've heard of legends such as Ryu, Ken Masters, Chun Li, and many more. You just don't know why you're here, but you'll get used to it. Fate, perhaps.

you, a martial artist who, along with their rival Bosch, trains with Luke Sullivan, who's supposed to be the "new face" of the upcoming tournaments, in Metro City to understand what it takes to become stronger.

A City once dominated by the Mad Gear organization, and infested with crime. Thanks to the staunch efforts of former mayor Mike Haggar, peace and prosperity returned to the city.

But to this day, on the streets there's one thing that hasn't changed. The denizens who survived that dark age are still just as tough as they ever were. Of course, that meant random fighters grinding by fighting each other

After Bosch disappears and becomes involved with the criminal Mad Gear gang, you embark on a worldwide journey to find him, and to learn new fighting styles from various fighters. Perhaps you should put an effort in all you do, all the while you'll get challenged into fights by many other fighters.

One day, you get ready for the day, dress up and leave your home, as you walk around Metro City to... Live your life to the fullest, or just do whatever you want to do. That... You WILL do, or something.
