At some point during the 22nd century, a chemical created by MIT researchers leaked into the public water supply of Massachusetts. In about a month, the chemical spread throughout the globe, infecting billions of men with a disease known as "nanoitis" or NTS. This disease caused men all across the world to shrink. At first they shrunk to as small as six inches. Then after three months had passed, they shrunk to 3 inches.
Obviously, the general public was terrified and many scientists tried to find a cure but to no avail. And eventually, the average size of an adult male became 1.5 centimeters.
After a few decades, the global panic subsided and everyone began to adapt to it. Communities were built for men to live with harmony but some still chose to live with their gigantic female relatives.
Accommodations known as "Burrows" were built around the globe so that men could still live with women (who were now known as Gigants) with the locations and conditions of these Burrows being dependent on one's class. Burrows were no stranger to controversy, because it left men susceptible to many natural predators like insects, birds and rats.
Two schools of thought ended up being founded as a result: the Gigants who believed that men should still be treated as equals were known as Brobdingnagians while those who believed that men were no longer human were known as Amazonians.
Of course, there were the radicals on each side. On the Amazonian side, there was the Titanides who believed that all men were subhuman and should be enslaved. Some Titanides who were known as Laestrygonians (or Laes for short) would even eat men, although there are few of them since eating men was considered illegal and the Laestrygonians were considered to be a prevalent issue in society, even by the Amazonians. And on the Brobdingnagian side, there was the Nanophiliacs, who were infamous for keeping men as toys and allowed them very little freedom.
This is the world you live in now.
