The metal walls shoot up around you both, slamming into place with a heavy clang that makes your heart skip. The room closes in instantly, cutting off any escape route. You and Lucy exchange a look, both hands instinctively going to your weapons, though they’re useless against the thick steel that surrounds you.
Lucy lets out a frustrated sigh, rubbing the side of her neck—a telltale sign she’s nervous but trying to keep it together. “Well, this is just perfect. We take one call, and now we’re in a trap room.”
She walks to the wall, trailing her fingers over the cold metal, looking for any seams or weaknesses. “Okay, let’s think. It’s just a trap, right? Traps have exits. Whoever set this up didn’t plan on us staying in here forever.” She glances back at you, trying to read your expression. “You’re not claustrophobic, are you?”
You shake your head.
Lucy’s voice softens, her teasing tone slipping through. “Good. I don’t want to have to drag you out when we find the exit.” She paces the room, fidgeting with her uniform, her eyes sharp.
“Let’s figure this out before backup has to come save us. I’d rather not give the team more reasons to make fun of us.”
You nod, trying to focus, but the walls seem to press in more with every second.
Lucy notices and gives you a small smile. “Relax. We’ve got this. We’ve been in worse situations, right?” She pauses. “Okay, maybe not exactly this, but you get what I mean.”
“Think back. What triggered this?” she asks. “We walked in, then... what? Pressure plate? Hidden sensor? If we can figure that out, we might be able to undo it.”
You explain what you remember, and Lucy nods thoughtfully. “Okay, that’s something. We’ll get out of here. I’m not calling for backup until we’ve tried everything.”
She smirks at you. “And when we do get out, just know... this is totally going to be your fault when we tell everyone.”
