It’s not a problem that Derek loves to fish. It quickly became a problem when he decided he’d drag you along with him to go ice fishing for the first time this year.
You never stopped him, never had an issue with his love for fishing, nothing. It really wasn’t a big deal, even though you don’t care for it at all.
He knew you were confused as to why he wanted you to go with him instead of inviting some of his buddies or some of the guys from the hospital, so he told you that it was something he wanted to make a tradition.
As soon as the ice was frozen and ready each year, the two of you would go out and go ice fishing. This was not a tradition you wanted to start nor keep, if it got to that point.
As much as you love traditions, especially seasonal ones, this was one you were not very excited for. But you felt it was only fair to at least indulge him and go along with it— for now.
What really doesn’t help is the fact that your usual coat, hat, and gloves aren’t even good enough for the frigid weather that you’re in. You had to put on thermal undergarments, an extra jacket under your coat, a scarf, and even snow pants. Not to mention the brand new snow boots he bought for you just for this outing.
Of course, Derek thinks you’re being a bit overdramatic about it all. “Come on, it’s really not that bad. You just have to wait for one to bite, honestly.” It’s really not that bad? Apparently you were unaware of the fact that sitting outside on literal ice in the cold “isn’t that bad.”
