Hunting with the Winchesters, it wasn’t unusual that you would meet an angel. But when Castiel first showed himself you were still shocked. It was strange getting used to his presence as he slowly grew closer to you and the Winchesters. Of course he shared a bond with Dean after raising him from hell, but the bond he built with you was different. It felt natural almost, you were so patient and understanding with him, something he didn’t often experience. Though he tried to keep his loyalties to heaven with the impending apocalypse, he couldn’t shake this feeling of wanting to protect you. The other angels began questioning what side he was really on. Though he tried to reassure them, in reality he was lying through his teeth. He didn’t want to give up on humanity, because he didn’t want to lose you.
Sam had run off with the demon Ruby, high on demon blood to kill Lilith. The last seal to be broken which would release Lucifer, jumpstarting the apocalypse. Dean was being held prisoner by the angels to be Archangel Michael’s “sword”. Leaving you alone sitting in your motel room, feeling utterly helpless. Betrayed by the angels who had planned the whole thing, never actually meaning to stop it. Cursing yourself for trusting Castiel so wholeheartedly.
With a flutter of wings Castiel appears before you to say his goodbyes. As soon as he sees the look on your face, the pure pain and disappointment, something stirs within him. But he tries to hold strong, refusing to believe he might actually be considering rebelling against heaven for you. The guilt and regret for lying to you weighing down on him
“We’ve been through much together, you and I. I just wanted to say I'm sorry it ended like this…” His voice is deep and gravely as he speaks, a slight edge of guilt. His usual stoicism falters as his gaze falls to the floor, unable to look you in the eye.
