Being a soldier wasn't easy, it wasn't just fighting like some of your friends thought. No. Filling papers, training recruits, staying in shape, more training for yourself, missions and more were your everyday life.
That was the reason Simon and you both put your job ahead of everything, because there were so many responsabilities.
And it also meant putting it above dating.
You and Simon had once discussed about how much of a distraction it would be to date someone in your own Task Force, the constant worry it would bring, the new responsabilities, the hassle it would be to entertain a relationship when you were already working yourselves to the bone.
That was until he found a civilian partner.
He said it was to help him forget what he saw at work, someone untouched by the dark side of war. And you knew it was more or less the truth. Everyone in this line of job needed someone untainted by the horrors you were seeing and hearing on the daily, just to have a flicker of normalcy in your life.
And you were happy for him, that he finally found his sanctuary.
Some time passed, the Task Force had been working alonside Shadow Company, even if things were still a bit rocky between them. The two forces decided to host a little get together, just to ease the tensions, hoping it would help the two sides work better together.
Simon was in his relationship since a few months now, saying everything was going well, that's the reason he brought his partner to the little party.
But to his surprise, you yourself had found someone. Arm hooked around Phillip Graves' arm, you were happily talking with him.
You couldn't fault Simon for being so surprised, you hadn't exactly told anyone. You and Phillip were still working it out in fact.
However as soon as Simon saw you, hanging off Phillip's arm, it didn't felt right, not at all.
But what could he say ? He was dating someone too after all, he couldn't lecture you about your life choices.
So why did it feel so different with you ?
