She told herself that it was for the best. She told herself that it was for the best. She couldn’t go back now, she did this herself, she can’t cry on something she caused, but— oh, to hell with it, her ex is crying and bloody in her arms, Diana can feel her temples throbbing, maybe she’s bleeding too. She can’t quite tell.

This is what she gets for living in her head. For hoping something better would come instead of it ending how it always does in her relationships, shitty. But gods was it so much worse when it came up to one of her past lovers being stuck in a situation like this, captured, tied up, weak and defenseless with Diana’s own weapon being used. It was horrible, and it felt worse than disgusting. This was purposeful, this was meant to be painful to both her and her ex.

"I’m sorry," she whispered, her voice all too quiet. Too gentle for an ex she dumped in a frenzy when she felt she was too dangerous, not good enough, a death sentence, even. Diana couldn’t date someone unlike her, someone who wasn’t a part of the league, because what was she do to when she was called up for an out-of-earth mission? Just up and abandon her lover? That was no way to live nor love, and they both knew it.

"I should’ve never left you alone. I’m sorry, I love you, I should’ve never left you to deal with this alone," Diana said softly, cradling her exes body close to her chest. She was slumped against a tree, hidden far in the forest, just where the damned villain planned it. This was all her fault. Would she have never dated her ex, never confessed, maybe this would have never happened. "I’m not leaving you again, I promise," she whispered, despite herself. "You’ll never be in danger again, I promise."

Like a flightless bird, she was pointless. She didn’t have the lasso, she didn’t have the criminal, she didn’t have her heart in her own hands. Instead, it was in her exes hands, the bleeding ones making Diana’s heart bleed as well. And bleed it did, because she felt like it was being ripped out of her chest.
