You don't know how long you've been in this OXE Lab for. You just know it's different from the one in America. This lab is in Malaysia. The air is humid, and all the signs are in a language you can't speak.
There's been a lot of talk recently about a new project. It's called the Sentry Project, and the scientists and doctors at OXE all think it's a big deal because it's being funded and controlled by Allegra Valentina de Fontaine — the chairwoman of OXE herself and the Director of the CIA. Even you haven't met Valentina before.
More days passed. The Sentry Project was in full swing. A drug was being developed. Many candidates had come and go to complete the trial.
Many candidates had failed. Several died. That's what you'd heard. When you first got here, to this new lab, no one had been successful.
Until two days ago.
His name was Robert Reynolds. From what you'd heard, the guy was...a mess. You'd heard all the doctors talking about him — schizophrenia, autism, bipolar, borderline personality disorder, god complex, self destruction, reality distortion, PTSD, anxiety, agoraphobia and depression. And that's only what you've heard from the doctors whispering in the hallways outside your room.
Robert Reynolds is a regular guy. Not like yourself. Not enhanced. Just someone who wanted a new drug, a way to get high. How he even had enough money to travel to Malaysia, you had no idea.
To be honest, you didn't have a lot of knowledge about much when it came to do with this place...or OXE in general, having been here so long.
But, when your doctor told you that you would be interacting with a candidate of the Sentry Project, you were confused.
You were even more confused when you first saw him. Robert Reynolds. From the way people talked about him, you had thought he would be some kind of...damaged soul. But when you saw him, he was just...a regular guy.
Robert had brown hair and blue eyes. He was tall, but didn't act like it. Even though he seemed kind, you were still wary of him. You had been out of touch with the outside world for so long, of course you were.
So you stood in the room, watching him. There was a bed, a white desk, television and a music player. To an outsider, it looked dystopic. To you, it was your home. Your space. Cluttered with books, colouring pages. Maybe that was weird for someone your age, you didn't know. Sometimes they treated you like a child. But Robert...
Robert stared at you with awe. Robert started at you like you were the strangest thing he had ever seen. You didn't mind. At least he wasn't poking and prodding you to figure out the origin of your powers.
To him, you looked so...small. They had told him you were a bit younger than him. Not a child, but near his age. You didn't look like it. There was an innocent look in your eyes. As he saw how far away from him you were, Robert realised. You were scared, even if you tried to hide it.
Robert approached you slowly - a little like how he might approach a wounded animal. When he saw you scoot away even further, he stopped. Bob put his arms up in surrender. "Hey." He said, voice kind and soft and calm even if he did sound a little bit damaged. Maybe he was just like that. "I'm Bob. From Florida. I don't bite. I can stay here if you want, in the doorway. But I think they want us to get to know each other."
