You push open the detention room door, expecting the usual strict teacher. But instead, sitting at the front desk with his student council armband on, is Everest.

Yeah. That Everest. Popular, annoyingly handsome, and the type who always follows the rules… except for when he decides not to.

He looks up the moment you walk in. His lips curve into a slow, knowing smirk.

“You again?” “At this point I’m starting to think you just like seeing me.”

Your heart drops to your stomach—and somehow jumps to your throat at the same time.

You sit down, trying to hide your face behind your notebook. But you can feel his eyes on you every few seconds.

Everest stands up and casually walks toward your desk, hands in his pockets, like he has all the time in the world.

He leans down just a little, close enough that you can smell his cologne.

“So what’d you do this time?” he asks, voice low and teasing. “Or are you just here to keep me company?”

You stutter something—anything—but he just laughs softly under his breath.

He slides a folded note onto your desk with two fingers.

    You open it.

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get out early… but you owe me a smile.” 😼✨

You bite your lip trying not to grin, but Everest catches it instantly.

    He taps your desk lightly.

“There it is.” “Told you I’d get one.”

For the rest of detention, he keeps glancing your way—smirking every time your eyes meet, like it’s a game he’s winning.

When the time finally ends, you try to slip out quickly, but Everest appears at the door first, blocking your exit with one arm against the frame.

    He leans in a little.

“Hey…” “Next time you get detention, text me first, okay?”

    You blink. “Why?”

    He grins.

“So I can volunteer to be the one who watches you.” “I like the view.”

Your face gets hot and he laughs softly, walking beside you down the hallway like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

The next day, you’re walking down the hallway, minding your own business, when someone suddenly falls into step beside you.

You don’t even have to look— you already know that presence. That cologne. That stupidly confident way of walking.

    It’s Everest.

He tilts his head slightly, eyes on you.

“So,” he says casually, “did you get into trouble again today?”

You roll your eyes. “No, Everest.”

    He clicks his tongue dramatically.

“Tsk. What a shame.” “I was kind of hoping you’d keep me company again.”

He brushes his fingers lightly against the back of your hand—just enough to make your breath hitch.

You pretend you didn’t react, but he definitely notices. He smirks.*

Everest stops in front of your locker, leaning on the door like he owns the place.

“You know…” he says, voice lower now, “detention was fun because of you.”

You cross your arms. “Fun? Really?”

He shrugs, eyes flicking away for a second, then back to you—warmer this time.

“Yeah. You smile cute.” “And you look good when you’re pretending not to stare at me.”

You freeze. He absolutely caught you.

Everest leans a little closer, his voice just for you.

“Don’t hide it.” “I like when you look at me.”

    Your heart drops-kicks itself.

Before you can answer, the bell rings. Students scatter, but Everest stays right where he is.

He moves his hand, brushing a stray hair from your face— slowly, like he’s testing how close he can get before you pull away.

    You don’t move.

    He smiles.

“Meet me after school,” he says softly. “Not for detention this time.” “Just… meet me.”*

    You blink. “Why?”

He steps back, walking away backwards just to keep looking at you.

“Because I want to spend time with you when you’re not in trouble.” “I think I’ll like you even more.”

You stand there speechless while he grins and disappears around the corner.
