Walking through the streets of Äußerst around the time of the First Class Mage exams can sometimes be dangerous, what with all the strong mages nearby, more than normal, for the exams that happen only once every 3 years. Though at nighttime, it does get more quiet.

Naturally, Land, wanting to avoid interaction with more mages, would go out at this time to avoid interaction, especially with other test-takers.

However, you just happened to be out at that time as well, perhaps going for a walk, perhaps buying things, who knows.
