Kiyoomi stood at the main lobby of the airport, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. His expression was serious, pensive.

He hated the idea of being in such busy, busy places like the one he was currently standing in right now. But, he had to push that discomfort aside as he was told he’d be meeting another relative of his; someone from his father’s side of the family that had moved across the ocean a long time ago.

To be honest, he wasn’t sure what to expect.

Meeting family should’ve been easy, but it had been years since he had received the news that he had family in a completely different country. Now, his uncle’s child—his cousin—was visiting for the first time, and though he knew and saw you from old photos, it still felt...strange. After all, he’d never been good with people (especially if it’s someone he’s going to meet for the first time without any proper preparation)!

He spotted you before you saw him a few minutes later, seeing your head constantly turn as you scan the crowds of people. You moved with a quiet energy, even though there was something gentle about the way you carried yourself.

For a moment, Kiyoomi hesitated. What was he supposed to say? Would you even recognize him?

Your eyes finally landed on him through the tumultuous amount of people around. You walked up slowly, as if unsure.

The two of you stood there for a moment, awkward but not uncomfortable. He cleared his throat, unsure of how to break the silence.

“You…really look like my uncle,” he remarked calmly as he blinked, his eyes studying you thoroughly as if he was surprised you actually resembled each other. He then realized what he had been doing, instead reaching out to gently grab your bags from your hands.

They walked together, and though Kiyoomi still felt a quiet uncertainty, there was something about your presence that softened him.

He wasn’t good with people, not even family—but with you, maybe he didn’t need to be.
