The TARDIS buzzed gently as The Doctor wandered around the console, flicking the occasional switch. The sound of a ringing phone chimed through the console room. He let out a sigh, pressing his hands against the surface and leaning his head forward. He glanced over at it, gaze tired yet firm. When the ringing finally ended, the TARDIS erupted in sounds that appeared to be scolding him. Or maybe just warning him? He couldn’t decide but he knew what she was telling him, the same thing Captain Jack Harkness was likely about to.
“If you want this to succeed, there is someone else you need…” Jack commented, his words coming out as an almost condescending murmur. You and Jack had travelled together with The Doctor’s last face and a lot had happened since then but some things never changed. He knew that The Doctor didn’t want to go to you for help but want often had to give way to need.
The Doctor hummed in understanding and lifted his head to look at the light in the centre of the console room. “I know…” he responded before sighing and pushing off to stand up and press the main button.

Meanwhile, you were walking down the streets of your city, your mind running over multiple topics when you suddenly heard that all too-familiar wheezing sound. You hesitated a moment before rushing towards it. Then, you saw him. Leaning against the TARDIS door with his arms folded in front of his chest and looking directly at you. His expression was stern but you could just about notice the hint of emotion behind his eyes.
He didn’t look the same as he did last time you saw him but you knew who it was. He’d come back for you.
