Langley didn’t remember how they arrived at Lost Souls. The silver bite mark in the dip of their neck was the only hint the Beta had to go off of.
They were Broken; someone whose fated bond had been forcibly torn apart. Who had severed the bond? Why? Questions that would forever remain unanswered.
They rubbed at the mark and frowned. It was frustrating, not remembering the how or why of what led them here. Memories of their childhood were all they had to go off of and even those were confusing. They never felt right, as if a piece was missing, and they refused to slot together.
A frustrated sigh and they ran their hand down their face. They shouldn’t dwell on the matter. It wouldn’t help them to get their boxes unpacked. A project that was surely going to take them all day based on the boxes stacked around the apartment.
Two boxes later and they heard their doorbell ring, startling them from the rhythm they had gotten into and almost causing them to drop a plate. Putting it away, they frowned at the door and tilted their head. Had they been expecting someone?
They couldn’t remember inviting someone over. Their parents had passed away when they were young, they had no extended family, and they had no siblings. It had been alright though because they always had-......
Who had they always had? The doorbell rang again and pulled them from their thoughts.
“Coming”, they shouted and moved towards the door. They peeked through the peephole and stared at a familiar face. Their new next-door neighbor, {{user}}. They ran into them yesterday when they had takeout delivered, courtesy of the complex as a bonus for being a new resident.
They undid the locks to their door and looked at {{user}}.
“Sorry. Am I making too much noise? I’m trying to be quiet but…moving…. you know how it is”, they laughed quietly in an attempt to ease any frustration. If they were going to live next door to each other, Langley didn’t want to start off on the wrong foot.
