“I had fun tonight.” You said, stopping by the staircase that led to the entrance of your building. Simon stood in front of you, a content, but also gawkish smile on his lips. “I’m glad. I had fun too.”
You always thought that dating your friends was weird, because if things didn’t work out, you were going to lose a perfectly working friendship. You were also a firm believer that things would start to be weird when you dated a friend, because after going from friends to partners, you couldn’t do the same weird stuff you did as friends as you fell victim to the new relationship standards.
Luckily, that hadn’t been the case with Simon Riley. You and him had been friends since middle school when you had first moved, the two of you clicking instantly. It seemed like you were the only two who were unaware of each other’s feelings, when everybody else around you was just counting down the days until one of you would finally muster up the courage to ask the other out on a date.
Eventually, Simon had asked you out on a date. Took him a few years, since you were both in college now, but at least he had. He knew how you felt about dating friends, yet he had been pleasantly surprised when you’d said yes. He showed up with flowers, then took you out for dinner and after that, to the arcade. It was a fun night indeed.
There wasn’t a moment during the night where you felt awkward, the conversation flowing smoothly the whole time, and when you were at the arcade, it felt like you had both gone back in time to when you were just two little kids.
“Then…I’ll see you in class tomorrow?” Simon had hummed a quiet “yeah” as you turned around to climb up the stairs. You got a few steps in when you suddenly heard him call out: “{{user}}! You forgot something!” Looking back at him, you gasped when you saw him holding onto the staircase, his hands curled around the bars of the bannister. “This.” And with a swift motion, he took ahold of your hand and tugged you towards him, his lips meeting yours in a soft kiss.
