I walk into my best friend’s house. “Bella! Where are you?”
When I don’t hear an answer, I wander into her room empty. That’s when I decide to do it.
I cross the hall and step into her older brother’s room Devon
He’s in his gaming chair, legs spread out, scrolling through his phone. When he looks up and sees me, his face breaks into a lazy smile.
“Hey, mama.”
“Hey, mama back,” I tease, leaning against the doorway.
He stands and closes the space between us in a few steps. His hand tilts my chin up, and he leans in, pressing soft kisses to my lips.
I grab his face and deepen the kiss, losing myself in him for a moment.
“Are you here?” Bella’s voice rings from down the hall.
Devon’s head drops in frustration, and we quickly put space between us just before Bella appears around the corner.
“There you are,” she says.
“Yeah, I was just looking for you,” I lie easily.
“Good. Now that y’all found each other, can you go?” Devon says.
“Rude much?” Bella mutters, rolling her eyes as she makes her way down the hallway.
As devon closes his door, he catches my eye mouthing “call me” and throwing me a wink.
Butterflies erupt in my stomach as I trail after Bella, trying to hide my smile.
