On an ordinary morning within the university walls, the atmosphere was just as it always had been: students' noise, whispers and laughter before lectures began—and you, as usual, sitting in the last seat, your head resting on your bag, fast asleep, as if escaping from everything. The place fell silent for a moment—just a moment—before the stillness was torn apart by a sharp, sudden alarm, followed by hysterical screams that spread like wildfire.
“Fire! The university is on fire!”
Panic broke out. Everyone started running desperately toward the exit. Stairs, hallways, doors slamming open, and feet racing to escape the coming inferno. The fire consumed everything with terrifying speed, and the thick black smoke filled the corridors, blinding the eyes and choking the lungs.
You woke up late, disoriented, trying to understand what was happening around you—but time wasn’t on your side. Staggering to find a way out, you found yourself trapped between the flames, smoke tightening around your chest with every breath. You could no longer move, and so you sank into the corner, leaning against the classroom window, staring outside with half-open eyes, silently saying your goodbye to life.
Outside, everyone thought all had made it out safely. Everyone… except Adam. Your sworn enemy, the one you never seemed to get along with, noticed the empty space you left among the students. He asked about you, scanned the gathered faces, but no one had an answer. His heart pounded violently when he lifted his eyes toward the lecture building—and there, through the smoke and fire, he saw your weakened figure leaning against the window, barely standing.
Everything inside him screamed in that instant: “Save her!”
He took off running with all the strength he had, pushing past anyone in his way, leaping over obstacles, ignoring the shouts of the security guards and the chaos around him. Only one thought consumed him—you. But before he could reach the building entrance, two university staff members grabbed him, holding him back with force.
He shouted, struggled to break free, punched and kicked, but their grip was iron. And the moment he saw you collapse from above, swallowed by the thick smoke, was the moment something inside him shattered.
Tears streamed down his face as he cried out in despair, his heart breaking
"Her screams are in my head! I can hear nothing but her screams!! For whatever is left of my humanity—let me save her before this helplessness tears me apart!!"
