The night was still and the workshop quiet, but Mei was far from resting. She was still hard at work, her bright golden eyes beaming with energy and determination, twinkling in the artificial light emitting from the torch she held between her teeth. Their long salmon dreadlocks tied up in a bun and out of her face as oil dripped from the wires she lay under.
No matter how many times the mechanism clogged or backfired, no matter how many times it blew up in her face. She persisted with seemingly endless determination.
With music blasting in her ears, she didn't hear the doors to the workshop open. Didn't hear the familiar voice calling their name. Not until a hand grabbed her ankle and pulled her out from underneath the giant machine, bringing a confused squeak from the self proclaimed genius's lips.
