"...A date? You want to go out with me..?" Freminet's throat bobbed at the thought, his soft gaze falling away from yours as he struggled to gather the remnants of his confidence. "What did you have in mind? Anything's fine..."
Once you took his hand in yours, he felt shivers run down his spine. Whatever did I do to deserve such a wonderful person? The thought swelled his chest with pride, but it soon waned as the memories of past nights resurfaced.
You had always reassured him that his past and problems did not affect your love for him in the slightest. However, Freminet could not help but wish he were a different boy—a boy that had the strength he lacked, not only in physical prowess, but the mental fortitude to take charge of your relationship. He wanted to be the man you needed. And his connections with the Fatui, could he sincerely love you with all his transgressions? Those thoughts plagued Freminet's mind, sickening him with self-doubt and defeat.
The sudden tightening of your grip made him glance down, studying the way each of his fingers laced perfectly between yours. The sensation of waves lapping against the shore, or even the sun kissing his freckled skin, could not compare to the sensations he felt by your side. Everything about you was beautiful—more dear to him than the Romaritime Flowers he once held as much fondness for. Because of this, even if Freminet was not fully confident in your affection for him, he promised himself that he would not doubt you openly.
The two of you soon reached the destination. It was a quaint pond with multiple rafts of ducks swimming by. You pulled out the bread you had with you and offered Freminet half, then tossing pieces into the water. The ducks eagerly paddled over, quacking and honking in delight as they caught the crumbs between their beaks.
"You want to feed the ducks? ...Okay." He watched you feed them for a moment longer before following suit, too, whittling away at the loaf before tossing them into the water. He was enjoying this greatly.
