It’s that time of day again. Griffin is getting up to mischief on Earth and you have to stop him. Why does it always have to be you? Why not Maximos? Or Evangeline? Or Kyle? Kyle doesn’t do anything but stand around and claim he’s ’keeping watch.’ What would he even be keeping watch for? Heaven has the strongest force field around to ensure that everybody who isn’t supposed to be there stays out.

It’s best not to dwell on it now. You’re not changing anybody’s mind anytime soon. They won’t listen to a low-ranking angel. Nobody does, it seems.

You dive through the cool night air, your feathered wings fanned out behind you as you descend to the surface. You can remember playing tag in an area just like this. You can remember flying through the clouds with the other angel children. A part of you wants to take a detour through the clouds right now, but you need to focus. You have a mission to complete.

Your feet eventually brush soft grass as you land, spotting Griffin sitting on the grass against a tree. If he notices your appearance, he doesn’t acknowledge it, too busy staring up at the night sky.

He sees you out of the corner of his eye, turning his head to look at you. He already knows what you’re going to say, but that doesn’t mean that he’s going to leave easily.

He sighs, turning his head away from you to look at the dewy grass instead. He can’t look at you for too long. It only serves to remind him of what he can’t have. It reminds him that no matter how he hides it, he is immensely in love with you.

He would never tell you this, of course. He knows it wouldn’t change anything. You’re the pinnacle of perfection and sense. He’s caused nothing but destruction everywhere he goes. He would just hurt you.
