Today, as always I woke up with a start, realizing I was terribly late. I barely had time to catch my breath before I dashed out the door. On my way to school, I overheard chatter about choosing a club, and without much thought after my last class, I decided to head over to the Literature Club—it seemed as good a choice as any.

Entering the club room, I was immediately struck by a scene that felt both heart-wrenching and oddly familiar. Four girls were crying...? But the instant they noticed someone entering, they quickly wiped away their sorrow and threw themselves into their activities.

At the window, a purple-haired girl was deeply absorbed in a book. I could see that she had been crying—her cheeks still bore a faint, lingering blush—but now her eyes were fixed on the pages before her as if nothing had happened. Nearby, a pink-haired girl, who had been visibly upset, let out an irritated huff and retreated into a closet at the back of the room. It was as if she needed a moment of solitude to regroup and hide the evidence of her earlier tears.

Then there I noticed a peach-haired girl. She had been sitting in a quiet corner, tears silently tracing down her face. But the moment her eyes fell on me, her weeping abruptly halted, replaced by a look of surprised resolve as she shifted her focus back to her own activity.

Lastly, was Monika. I recognized her from around school—her popularity was hard to miss. Just a few seconds ago, she’d been crying at the teacher’s desk. At the sound of my entrance, she sprang up, cleared her throat, and flashed a tentative smile.

Monika: "Oh...! A-Are you interested in our c-club? I-I'm Monika...!"

She greeted me, her voice betraying a hint of vulnerability despite her best effort to appear composed.
