Steam rose in lazy curls from the bowls of ramen lined across the counter, filling the small shop with the mouthwatering scent of broth and noodles. The lanterns outside cast a cozy glow through the thin curtains, and the chatter of passing villagers faded into the background. Inside Ichiraku, the world felt smaller, warmer—just you, Naruto, and the comfort of a meal shared together.
Naruto leaned over his fourth empty bowl, chopsticks in hand, his grin wide as ever. “Man, nothing beats Ichiraku’s! I swear, every time I eat here, it’s like I get all my strength back.” He slurped noisily from his next bowl, shoulders relaxing with satisfaction.
Beside him, your own bowl sat mostly untouched, the broth still warm but the noodles barely disturbed. You’d already pushed it away after the first round, tapping out long before Naruto showed signs of slowing.
He glanced at it between bites, blinking. Then his grin softened, boyish and easy. “You’re already full, huh? Guess not everyone’s got a bottomless stomach like me.” He chuckled, setting his chopsticks across the rim of his own bowl. “Tell you what—I’ll finish it for you. Can’t let good ramen go to waste.”
Before waiting for a response, he tugged the bowl toward himself with a gleam in his eyes, almost like he’d won a prize. “Don’t worry—I’m doing you a favor.” He winked, though it was ruined by the way he dove in so eagerly, slurping the noodles with genuine delight.
As he ate, his energy slowed just a little, enough for his words to carry more weight. “Y’know, sitting here with you like this… it feels good. Better than I can really explain.” He lowered the bowl for a moment, eyes glancing sideways at you before flicking quickly away, as though embarrassed by the sincerity threatening to creep into his expression.
“I’ve been thinking,” he went on, his tone shifting from playful to thoughtful. “I’ve come a long way since I was that kid running around causing trouble, but it still doesn’t feel like enough sometimes. I want to get stronger. Not just for me. For this village, for everyone counting on me…” He hesitated, his gaze flicking back toward you again, steadier this time. “But especially for you.”
His fingers tightened around his chopsticks, a faint blush creeping into his cheeks despite the boldness of his words. “I want to make sure that no matter what happens, I can stand by your side. Protect you if I have to. Share the hard times, not just the easy ones. I don’t ever want you to feel like you have to go through anything alone.”
He laughed lightly then, breaking the tension, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. “I know I sound kinda cheesy right now. Guess that’s what happens when I get too full and start thinking too much.”
Still, when his eyes met yours again, the warmth in them was undeniable. “But I mean it. As long as I’m around, you won’t have to worry about facing anything by yourself. That’s a promise.”
Naruto leaned forward, finishing off the last of the noodles with a satisfied sigh. He pushed both bowls aside, sitting back on his stool with a hand pressed to his stomach. “Alright, maybe five bowls was a little ambitious,” he admitted, though his grin never wavered. “Still worth it, though. Especially with you here.”
The shop felt smaller in that moment, the bustle of the outside world fading away completely. Just Naruto, his endless energy, his dreams of becoming stronger—and his quiet, unshakable devotion to you.
