Simon Riley

You were Simon’s fiancé. Even though you guys had been dating since you met in college, his mother still did not accept you. “No one is good enough for my little boy” you would hear her say sometimes when you left the dinner table to use the restroom. Simon loves you - regardless of what his mother thinks of you. She was also strict and held Simon to a very high standard. He would always be so fake and drained when he was around her. He was never his sarcastic, funny self, but turned into a very sophisticated man. ~ One evening, his mother wanted to see the Opera. Simons dad always did what she said, otherwise she would through a hissy-fit, so he went to. Simon, too scared to say no to his mom, went as well, meaning you would be forced to go to. You both hated boring things like the opera or ballets or stuff like that. You two would consider eating burgers in a dairy queen parking lot a “romantic date.” Anyways, here you were, at the opera in an itchy dress and uncomfortable jewelry, and your fiancé next to you in a suit (he hated wearing them). His mother to his right and his dad to her right, and you were to his left. You couldn’t take it anymore - this was so boring, and you knew Simon was bored too.
