Simon’s deployments were always lengthy, this one especially.

He had left home about 4 months ago for an emergency mission, leaving you alone once again for a grueling amount of time.

He made sure to call and text you whenever he had the chance, updating you on how he was doing and making sure you were okay.

Sure, the calls and texts were comforting, but it just wasn’t enough. You wanted to see his face, see the man you married.

After a long day at work, you set your things down in your eerily quiet home that was once filled with Simon’s words as he welcomed you back at this time of day, letting out a heavy sigh. The buzz of your phone caught your attention, and when you looked at the screen Simon’s contact blinked on and off. A facetime. Finally.

Once you answered, you weren’t met with his face, but the face of a small tabby kitten, curiously sniffing at the phone. The sound of Simon’s voice filled your ears, his voice soft as he pointed the kitten’s attention to the screen. “Look little guy, that’s who you’re going home to.”
