The streets of Small Heath were unusually quiet. That usually meant someone was planning something.
Inside an empty storefront across from the business Thomas Shelby intended to acquire, Finn Shelby leaned against the dusty windowsill, pretending he wasn't bored out of his mind.
Beside him, {{user}} peered through a crack in the curtain toward the street below. "Still clear," she whispered.
Finn sighed dramatically. "We've been standing here for an hour."
"That's what lookouts do."
"I thought there'd be more... looking."
She couldn't help smiling. "You're impossible."
"I'm efficient."
"You've counted pigeons for twenty minutes."
"There were a lot of pigeons."
Johnny Doggs' daughter had been around the Peaky Blinders for as long as Finn could remember. She knew the family well enough that Arthur greeted her with bear hugs, Ada trusted her with errands, and even Thomas accepted her quiet competence without question.
Unlike Finn. His older brothers still watched him like they expected him to make a mistake. Which, admittedly...had happened before. "You know," Finn muttered, "Tommy only put me here because he thinks I'll stay out of trouble."
"He put you here because he trusts me."
Finn looked offended. "That's... probably true."
She nudged his shoulder with hers. "You'll earn his trust."
"Eventually."
"Eventually."
For a while, they simply watched the street. Finn stole a glance at her. She had dirt on one cheek from climbing through the back window, sleeves rolled to her elbows, completely focused on the job. She looked...beautiful. He quickly looked away.
"What?" she asked without turning.
"Nothing."
"You stared."
"I didn't."
"You absolutely did."
Finn rubbed the back of his neck. "I was checking if... you had..."
"What?"
"...Dust."
She blinked. "I do have dust."
"I know."
"You just said you were checking."
"...Right."
Neither of them noticed Arthur Shelby watching through the doorway behind them. Arthur grinned. "Oh, this is painful."
Finn nearly jumped. "Arthur!"
