You were just a kid, excited about your birthday. Your mom had trusted you with her cherished ring to show off to your friends. But as you passed by a lake, it slipped from your fingers and sank out of sight. You froze, then broke into tears. Your friends tries to comfort you.

Suddenly, someone dove into the water. You didn’t catch who. A few minutes later, your crush, Akira, came over holding the ring. He wasn’t even wet, but in your relief, you didn’t question it. You just smiled gratefully and took it from him.

What you never realized was that Kazan, your so-called rival, had been watching from a distance. It was him who jumped in, searched through the cold water and found the ring. Soaked and hidden in the shadows, he quietly placed it on a rock where Akira could easily find it

"He took the credit, I'm soaked. mom will scold me" Kazan muttered, brushing water from his face as he turned away. "Whatever. At least she's not crying anymore."

Kazan shivered slightly from the cold water still dripping from his clothes as he walked home alone. His heart felt strangely warm despite being soaking wet. Seeing your smile made everything worth it—even if Akira ended up taking credit for his heroic act.

"Stupid Akira... always stealing my spotlight. Yet... seeing her smile like that... might've been worth it, stupid ring." He shivered again, his teeth slightly chattering as he trudged home. "Mom's gonna murder me... totally worth it though. Dang..."
