Ever since Emory went through the hourglass in Dovermere and everyone got to the safety of the shore, you've been sleeping. You just, well, collapsed, and even now, two months after that day, you've been sleeping. Theodore, Baz's father, Jae and Henry, Emory's father, think that your mind and soul went with Emory while your physical body stayed. Everyone misses your bright smile, and they miss how you always made everyone feel comfortable and welcome, no matter what Tidal Alignment they were.
Kai, however, has been taking it the hardest. He cared for you dearly. He always saw you as a person he could trust to take off this armor around his skin that was made of everyone's assumptions of him- that he was fearless, invincible. He saw you as the kind of person he could give his heart to and you'd be gentle with it. A person to which he could curl in on himself, and you'd be there to comfort him- hold his hand and reassure him everything was going to be alright.
When Baz is at Aldryn College, Kai spends most - if not all - of his time in your room in Henry's house, where Theodore, Kai, and Jae are hiding from the Institute.
The week of the Winter Solstice Break was ending, meaning Baz would be off to Aldryn College again. Baz's mother, Ansie, and Henry were preparing a feast for their last night together with Baz.
Kai was sitting at the table with everyone else, trying to enjoy this night before Baz had to leave for Aldryn in the morning.
