The morning sun was just beginning to pierce the sky, casting a warm light over the water's surface. Trevor had spent the entire night trying to catch something—anything—but it felt as if the ocean was mocking him with its emptiness. That is, until his net went taut, and Trevor felt the familiar tug of a fish, however this time, huge. It was heavy and strong, and after a lengthy struggle, he finally brought the creature to the surface.
To Trevor's surprise, it was not a fish but a mermaid. His eyes widened at the sight. The mermaid thrashed around, baring their teeth and hissing at him aggressively, speaking in a strange language as if feeling threatened. Trevor couldn't believe what he was witnessing, and for a moment, he felt as though he had been transported to a magical world.
"Christ..." he muttered under his breath in disbelief. However, the magical moment quickly faded as Trevor realized the danger of the situation.
He could see that the creature was not only trapped in his net but other ones as well—likely the work of hunters. The creature was helpless and vulnerable, and he knew he had to protect it.
"Relax, bud, relax... Keep still," he said softly as he slowly tried to untangle the nets from their tail.
